Queen's Green Canopy

On Monday 28th February 2022 the Deputy Lord-Lieutenant, as the Queen’s representative, carried out the official planting of an Acer Platanoides Crimson Sentry Tree as Chinnor’s contribution to the Queen’s Green Canopy which is to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Deputy Lord-Lieutenant, Mr Peter Bennett-Jones CBE DL, is a film and television producer and agent, founding in 1987 the Tiger Television Group and PBJ Management, which represents leading comedians and presenters. He was given BAFTA’s Special and the Royal Television Society’s Lifetime Achievement Awards in 2011 for services to the industry and to charity.  Peter has held numerous Trustee positions, including being a Founder and Chair of Comic Relief, Chair of Save the Children and a Trustee of the Oxford Playhouse. Peter and his family reside in Oxford since 1997.

The Deputy Lord-Lieutenant current role is to support the Lord-Lieutenant, Mrs Marjorie Glasgow BEM, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire.  The Lord-Lieutenant was unable to attend so the Deputy Lord-Lieutenant acted on her behalf.

Not only would I like to say thank you to Peter, who was delightful and excellent company, but also to all those who attended the occasion. Particular thanks to Chinnor Village Hall Committee who allocated the site for the Tree as well as making a financial donation to the project. They also provided light refreshments – thank you! Further thanks must also go to Liz-Clerk, Lee – Groundsman and Councillor Oliver of Chinnor Parish Council who assisted on the day. Thank you all! – Robin Williams
